The portable refractometer PAL-α has a wider range than the PAL-1, allowing for usage in a wider range of applications from 0.0% to 85.0%.
The most common example is determining sugar content in fresh fruit, vegetables, juices, jams, sauces, and condiments.
Also, they are widely used for quality control monitoring within the manufacturing process and finished goods Quality Assurance testing.

I recently bought the PAL-a for my lab and I can say it's been great so far! It is convenient and easy to use. We use it for teaching and research purposes in different products like jams, jellies, salsas and sauces.
